Sail, trade, and fight across the shores of the North Sea during the Early Middle Ages!
The Great Whale Road is a story-driven role-playing game with emphasis on historical accuracy and beautiful hand-drawn art.
You begin each year by managing your settlement during the rough Winter season, and as Summer arrives you take a select number of warriors to complete quests filled with random events and skirmishes.
Combat is represented as a turn-based tabletop game, where each class of character has unique abilities that can be learnt and chosen prior to battles.
The game has three separate campaigns following the stories a Danish, a Frankish, and a Frisian settlement. The region where they take place is populated with more than 40 unique locations to visit, trade and raid.
I was brought in around a year into development, with a tight time-frame until the game’s launch into Steam Early Access, to flesh out the existing design and work on additions that would make the experience whole.
Additionally, I created workflows for data management and event scripting, and edited each trailer since the initial release of the game.
The Great Whale Road was released on March 30th and is available for Windows, macOS and Linux, and can be purchased from Steam, Humble Store, Windows Store, and Facebook Gameroom. It has been delisted due to licensing reasons.
